Solution 03

Shade cameras from another building or country

REMI, at-home, distributed — whatever it is called this year, it means the operator and the camera are not in the same country. Control has to survive that.

01 — The problem

Camera protocols were built for short serial cables

Panasonic PTZ protocols require precise timing and multiple messages for every adjustment. Put network latency in the middle and that leads to timeouts, disconnects and system failures.

Without remote control, a five-camera event split across two countries means sending an OB truck and a crew to site.

02 — What we do about it

Terminate the protocol at the camera, send only intent

RIO sits at the camera and holds the protocol conversation locally. Latency compensation happens at the camera end, not at the panel, so what crosses the link is intent rather than timing-critical chatter.

Cloud relay makes it plug-and-play; a VPN topology is available when the network team prefers to own the tunnel. REMI tags are additive, so a crew can join a client's group for one job without wiping its own configuration.

03 — Why it holds up

What this actually buys you

01

Works over links you do not own

Cellular and public internet become usable control paths.

02

Fault isolation

A blip on one link does not propagate to the rest of the system.

03

Tally comes back

The operator in the field still knows when they are live.

04

WAN is a licence

On the RIO, not the RCP. All RCPs support cloud natively.

Field report
“This tool is, for me, a real game changer in our industry, a revolution like the release of the Canon 5DMKII in 2008.”

Does your show look like this?

Send the two ends: where the cameras are, where the panel is. You will get an answer from an engineer, including the parts we cannot do.
